Clutter Organization

How would you feel if one late afternoon you come home exhausted from work and see the place that you call a home crowded and filled with so much stuff? Papers, containers, pizza boxes, bottles and wrappers scattered everywhere! You feel trapped and there is no place you can hide. You try to pick them up one by one and you realize it would take you until the next day before you finish the whole job. It’s frustrating. Clutter Control...

Clutter becomes a major obstacle if someone desires a clean, organized place but lacks the knowledge of how and when to do it. Every home has clutter. In fact, we all have clutter. But it should not be a problem if one only knows how to control it. Here are the tips.

Start with the most common thing that clutters people’s homes - papers. Newspapers, school papers, papers from work and letters from mail, all would crowd your space if you would keep them and let them pile up for the next couple of months. Take the time to sort them out one by one. Know which ones to throw or which ones can be recycled. Organize the bills on one spot and manage your work papers, flyers, files and other important documents on one spot that is safe and secure. Check your children’s school flyers, school papers, projects, old notebooks and books and decide which ones need to go and which ones need to stay.

Find a right place for those that you wish to keep – inside the cabinet, up in the attic, in the basement or under the bed and even a filing cabinet. Labeling them will also save you time when you look for something you would need in the future. Placing a fashionable garbage can at the front door, at the back door, in the kitchen and other corners of your house would also help minimize your clutter. It is a good thing that you get used to getting rid of the garbage in your life before it takes your life over.

Once you are done with the papers, there may still be other types of clutter that you would want to dispose of. Boxes, cans, bottles, old toys, old clothes, and other seasonal items can later on become clutter if you neglect to organize them. There are other things you should always think about in controlling clutter: Is it recyclable? Is it sentimental or valuable to my family? Is it an item we will use again? Is it important?

If the answer is yes, then you might want to consider keeping them in a good storage. Once again, label them. For items that are broken, damaged or stained, throw them out. However, nowadays, there are establishments that accept and buy broken glasses, newspapers and other recyclable materials. All you have to do is sort and sell. I like to give the recyclable jobs to my kids and any money that is earned from the recyclables (ie. cans, bottles, etc) they get to keep. Otherwise, you can also donate other stuff, working and in good condition, to charity.

Thus, you have so many ways and options in organizing clutter. Manage your time to check and systematize the things around you as it will give you relief and a more directed life. Moreover, it will give you clear and peaceful place to live in.
